Professor Yane Svetiev

Yane Svetiev joined the University of Sydney Law School in 2018, having held faculty appointments at Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) and at Brooklyn Law School (New York, USA). His research focuses on the intersection between private law and transnational market regulation. In addition to his academic appointments, he has served as litigation associate at Cravath, Swaine and Moore LLP (New York, USA) and as judicial associate to the Hon. Michael Kirby at the High Court of Australia.

Yane has worked as part of international interdisciplinary collaborations documenting the emergence of experimentalist governance as a transnational regulatory architecture, as well as studying informal international regulatory cooperation and European regulatory private law. His work employs socio-legal methodologies to study novel regulatory techniques and their interaction with traditional mechanisms of administrative enforcement, judicial review and private rights of action.

Yane has held visiting research appointments at Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany), the International Institute for the Sociology of Law (Oñati, Basque Country, Spain) and as Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). He has previously taught game theory and mathematical economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Sydney. He speaks Italian, French, Macedonian and Serbo/Croatian.
